The Worcester Greenstar Camray range of High Efficiency Condensing
Boilers have experienced probelms with baffle removal from the primary heat exchanger. This is due in the main to lack
of regular maintenance and if these appliances are neglected then the extraction of baffles, essential for cleaning and ensuring
the flueways remain clear, can be problematic due to the build-up of sulphur (a by-product of the combustion process).
As a result of this, many Oil-Fired technicians are not prepared to work on these appliances unless a full service history
is provided.
Baffles subject
to this problem are extremely difficult to remove without assistance,. If the build-up of sulphur is particularly bad
it can be broken down by using a solution of baking powder or bi-carbonate of soda and water. A solution of one teaspoon
of either bases to 100 ml of hot water (approximately 50 degrees celcius) should be sufficient. The Engineer must wear sufficient
eye and hand protection as although the bi-carbonate of soda solution is harmless, the solution that will come off with the
baffles will contain condensate salts, soot and rust. The baffles should be rinsed with clean warm water once removed.
Range Heating can provide a baffle-removal service with the price of this
dependent on the condition of the boiler and evidence of recent service history. In addition, we are certified by Worcester
Bosch in Advanced Fault Finding on Greenstar Oil Fired appliances.
